Huddersfield is situated between
Leeds and Manchester. The town centre is approximately three miles
from the M62 junctions 23, 24 or 25. The Trans-Pennine rail service
links Huddersfield to Manchester, Leeds and York.
This area of Pennine Yorkshire will be familiar to
lots of people as the setting for 'Where The Heart Is' and 'Last
Of The Summer Wine'. Huddersfield is a true Yorkshire town, full
of qualities, strong traditions, architecture, shopping, top class
sport exciting festivals and artistic reputation. And all set on
the edge of the Peak District National Park. Huddersfield's reputation
and prosperity was built around the Textile Industry and its
fine woollen worsteds are still sent to customers all over the world.
The boom created
by the textile industry provided a legacy of fine Victorian buildings
such as the railway station and Huddersfield Town Hall. The creativity
that helped the town to prosper is still to the fore today - the
town is becoming known for its award-winning festivals and growing
artistic reputation, earning it the European designation of a 'Creative
Town'.
