The market town of Pontefract is
situated within easy travelling distance of the M62, M1 and A1 which
is ideal for commuters to the major cities such as Leeds, Bradford,
Wakefield, Doncaster and Sheffield.
Places of interest include Pontefract Castle, built
in the 11th century. Its thought to be the place of Richard II's
murder by Bolingbroke, who consequently became Henry IV in 1400.
Pontefract has a market day on a Wednesday and Saturday, markets
have been recorded in Pontefract since 1194.
For those who fancy a trip to watch the horses Pontefract
Racecourse runs regular meetings and the course is regarded as the
longest circular flat racecourse in Europe.
